Umrah Visa from India 2026: Documents, Process & Requirements

The Umrah visa process for Indian pilgrims is straightforward once you know what's needed - but missing a single document, like an out-of-date vaccination certificate, can delay your whole trip. Here's what to have ready.

Documents You'll Need

  • Valid passport - must be valid for at least 6 months from your travel date, with a minimum of two blank pages. Handwritten or damaged passports are not accepted.
  • Passport-size photographs - recent photos on a white background, with a clear, unobstructed view of the face (religious headcoverings are permitted).
  • Vaccination certificate - proof of Meningococcal (ACWY) vaccination is mandatory for all pilgrims, along with any current COVID-19 vaccination requirement, issued by an approved Indian medical centre.
  • Confirmed travel arrangements - flight tickets, hotel bookings in both Makkah and Madinah, and any domestic transport within Saudi Arabia.

How the Visa Process Works

  1. Choose a registered Umrah travel agency authorised to process Saudi Umrah visas.
  2. Submit your documents - passport, photos, vaccination certificate and travel confirmations.
  3. Your agency submits the application through the official Saudi visa portal on your behalf.
  4. Approval is typically confirmed within a matter of working days, though this can extend during high-demand periods.

As a general timeline, apply 2-4 weeks before your travel date for standard processing. During Ramadan or other peak periods, applying earlier is strongly recommended, since visa slots and hotel availability both tighten up.

Rules for Women Travelling

Saudi Umrah visa rules include specific provisions for women pilgrims: women under 45 are generally required to travel with a mahram (a male guardian, typically a husband or close male relative), while women above 45 can often travel with an organised group provided the correct consent documentation is in place. These rules can and do change, so it's worth confirming the current requirement with your travel agency before booking.

Children and Family Groups

Children travelling for Umrah need their own individual passport - they cannot travel on a parent's passport. Birth certificates may be requested as supporting documents, and up-to-date vaccinations are mandatory for children just as they are for adults.

Why Book Through a Registered Agency

Because Umrah visas are issued through registered travel agencies rather than directly to individuals, working with an established operator does more than save paperwork - it also means your visa, flights, hotel and ziyarat are all coordinated together, so nothing falls through the cracks between separate bookings.
